I signed up for Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton’s Email Newsletter… The differences so far are staggering! #Elections2016 #marketing
UPDATE TO THIS POST: A FEW WEEKS AFTER I POSTED, THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN BEGAN AGGRESSIVELY SENDING EMAILS TOO — (I’M SURE IT WASN’T RELATED TO ME. ) BUT BY THE END, THEY DEFINITELY COVERED THE EMAIL CHANNEL COMPLETELY
About a week ago I signed up for Trump and Hillary’s Email newsletter.
Not wanting to follow to the polar subjectiveness of the news media, I figured I’d go straight to the source.
After clicking around each website, I signed up for their email list.
As a professional marketer, I knew (or assumed) both parties would prioritize email to market and mobilize their base.
And after hearing stories of the 2008 campaign and the impact of social media for President Obama, I was excited and curious the peer into each campaign’s tactics.
As of Today, August 5th, it’s been 8 days since I signed up for both lists… the differences are staggering.
Here’s screen shot from what I’ve received from Hillary Clinton’s team:
10 emails in 8 days.
They call me “Friend”
The subject lines are all expertly crafted.
“Preheaders” are deployed to sweeten the open rate.
By the 7th email, they take the next step and ask for my digits.
The marketer in me is tickled.
I’m taking notes and appreciating the creativity and psychology.
In nearly every email, the call to action is simple and direct:
Can You Donate $1?
I like that. Not $100, Not $50.. just a measly $1.
Who can’t do that?
After you click the link, the landing page conveniently gives you multiple payment options-
None of which is only $1. ;)
Next, let’s look at how The Donald and his team court me…
In 8 days…
Just 1 email!
And the CTA?
I see quite a difference here!
