DO YOU STILL DREAM?
And not just dream to have, but dream to BE?
Assuming you are not DONE.
Assuming you are not FINISHED.
Assuming you are not in your mid-80s, retired, immobile, independantly wealthy doing what you were born to do….
Let me put it like this…
I see and find many people who are workers, and grinders and hustlers, with an ethic and perseverance towards doing what must be done.
But not many people dreamers. ( Especially if you’re in your 30s or 40s or even 50's.)
Yes, I know you have responsibilities. You have bills. You have kids. You have clients and organizations that rely on you to show up and deliver on a daily basis. Yes yes yes… I know.
But I also know that you are not dead. Not yet.
And so, while you are living why must you stop dreaming?
Why must we stop imagining beyond the practical and the logical and dream about something deeper, something more meaningful, something that mediates our purpose, passion and potential?
I don’t know… am I brainwashed?
Am I immature because I think that I can still become — someone. Something completely different than who I have been working professionally as for 14 years…
And I naive to think I can still do anything!?
Sharing My Journey
A few weeks ago, I started a video blog to put my life on display as I raise the priority in my own life of resurrecting my dreams and committing to the journey.
I wanted to encourage other people my age(ish) and begin a conversation of what I am seeing, trying and learning.
For the past 14 years I’ve hustled building consulting and freelance businesses to help others’ with online marketing. But when it came to marketing myself and voicing my thoughts I’ve always put myself on the backseat.
Sure I’ve done a little here and there, but I haven’t taken myself seriously. My clients pay the bills. So they would get the best of what I had.
What happens when you discover the best thing you can give the world, doesn’t come from your hands but from your mouth?”
But now… I feel like what I was doing wasn’t quite right. Sure it’s good to prioritize others. It’s right to work and work hard and sow your talents and skills into other companies and peoples.
But when you dig though all the stuff you can do and could do and should do… what happens when you get to the center and discover the best thing you can give the world, doesn’t come from your hands but from your mouth?
The Difference Between the Worker and the Dreamer is Betting On and Becoming Themselves
Lately I have been hearing a resounding theme everywhere I go. It’s a theme of becoming more of ourselves. Focusing on our strengths. Betting on ourselves. Developing self-awareness. Leveraging our gifts, etc.
I don’t know where you are in your journey. But I hope that if you are like me — filled with potential but not seeing the progress that you want — I hope that you would join me in making a commitment to ourself.
Commit to betting on yourself. Win or lose, anything other than burying your true-self under the guise of service, sacrifice, hustling or grinding.
There will always be needs.
The world will always have crisis.
But there will not always be [insert your name].
